Terms of Service
1. Agreement and service description
These Terms govern your use of GEMC2. By registering or using the service, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. GEMC2 is an independently operated, text-only social network designed for written conversation. Public content consists of text posts and replies, along with features such as usernames, hashtags, mentions, +1 reactions, reposts, follows, blocks, search, and notifications. GEMC2 is not designed for uploading images, videos, audio, or other files.
2. Registration and eligibility
- You must be at least 16 years old to use GEMC2.
- Registration requires a username, email address, password, and a short answer explaining why you want to join. Your answer may be reviewed to reduce abuse and maintain the character of the community.
- You must verify your email address. Registration may also require manual approval before you can sign in.
- You must provide information that you are authorized to use and keep your account credentials secure.
- One person may maintain one account. You may not create accounts to evade restrictions, impersonate others, or abuse the service.
3. Usernames and profiles
Usernames are unique, are not transferable, and cannot be changed through the normal service. GEMC2's policy is to reserve a username permanently once assigned, including after an account is deactivated; it will not be reassigned to another user. Display names and optional biographies may be changed using available profile settings. Profiles may show your username, display name, biography, join date, and public activity.
4. Public content and personal information
Posts, replies, profile details, hashtags, mentions, reactions, reposts, and other activity designated as public may be visible to anyone, including people who do not have a GEMC2 account. Search engines, archives, other users, or third-party services may copy, index, cache, quote, or redistribute public material. GEMC2 cannot guarantee removal of copies outside its systems.
You are responsible for the information you choose to publish, including personal information about yourself or other people. Do not publish information you do not want to be public. Do not publish another person's private, identifying, or confidential information unless you have a lawful basis or authorization to do so.
You retain rights you hold in your content. You grant GEMC2 a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, index, and technically process content as necessary to operate, secure, moderate, and make the service available. This does not transfer ownership of your content to GEMC2. Where public content remains available after account deactivation, this limited license continues only as necessary to display and operate that retained content, comply with law, and protect the service.
5. Editing, deletion, and edit history
You may edit a post or reply for up to 30 minutes after it is published. The ordinary interface does not provide a delete function for published posts or replies. GEMC2 may hide or remove content when reasonably necessary for moderation, security, or compliance with law.
GEMC2 may retain an edit history containing earlier and newer versions of edited text and timestamps. Previous versions may be available in the post detail or through service features. Editing must not be treated as a way to erase information that was previously published. Public copies made by other users or third parties may remain even if GEMC2 later hides or removes the original.
6. Acceptable use
You may not use GEMC2 to:
- Threaten violence, incite imminent violence, or harass or target people abusively.
- Publish unlawful material, credible threats, or content that unlawfully promotes hatred or discrimination.
- Impersonate another person or mislead others about your identity or authority.
- Spam, phish, defraud, distribute malware, manipulate engagement, or abuse automated access.
- Infringe intellectual-property rights or publish another person's private information to intimidate, expose, or endanger them.
- Attempt unauthorized access, interfere with the service, bypass security controls, or evade a suspension.
7. Reports, moderation, and appeals
You may report content or an account through the available reporting tools or by emailing [email protected]. Reports may include the reported account, post, category, and information necessary to investigate. GEMC2 reviews reports and may dismiss a report, hide content, restrict features, reject a pending registration, or suspend an account. A user may request a review of a moderation decision through the same contact address; a review does not guarantee reversal.
GEMC2 is operated by a small team and does not promise a fixed response time for every report. We will act in accordance with applicable legal deadlines and take reasonable steps to address credible safety, security, and legal concerns. Nothing in these Terms excludes obligations or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. Account suspension and deactivation
GEMC2 may restrict or suspend an account for violations of these Terms, suspected fraud or abuse, threats to service security, or where required by law. We may preserve relevant records where necessary to investigate abuse or comply with legal obligations.
You may request account deactivation by emailing [email protected] from the email address associated with your account. Until a self-service control is available, requests will be handled manually. After verifying the request, GEMC2's policy is to disable account access and revoke active sessions. The username will remain permanently reserved and cannot be reused.
Deactivation does not automatically remove public posts, replies, or their edit histories. Those materials may remain visible under the original username unless they are removed or restricted for legal, safety, or moderation reasons. Personal account data not needed for retained public content, security, or a lawful purpose will be removed from active systems within 30 days after a confirmed request. Backup copies may persist until the relevant backup cycle expires, for up to an additional 30 days where technically feasible. Information may be retained longer where required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
9. Private messaging: binding design requirements
GEMC2 intends to introduce private messaging only after the required safeguards have been implemented and tested. When the feature becomes available, it will be governed by the following rules:
- Messaging will be limited to plain text between two users. It will not support group chats, attachments, images, audio, video, or calls.
- Messages will use end-to-end encryption designed so that the GEMC2 operator cannot read message content.
- The server will keep only a temporary encrypted queue for messages that have not yet been delivered. A pending message will expire and be deleted no later than 30 days after sending.
- After the recipient's device provides a valid confirmation that it received and correctly stored a message, the server's temporary copy will be deleted. Undelivered messages will be deleted when the 30-day limit expires.
- Each participant will keep their own local conversation copy. Deleting a local copy deletes only that participant's copy; it does not retract a sent message, cancel delivery, or delete the other participant's copy.
- GEMC2 will not keep a permanent server-side message history and will not offer history migration, cross-device synchronization, or recovery of lost or deleted local conversations.
- Messaging will allow one active messaging device/session per account. Tabs belonging to the same browser/device are intended to share that device session and will not displace one another.
- Messaging will provide delivery confirmation only, not read receipts. Push notifications for private messages will be generic and will not contain message text or other message content.
- Message content and private encryption keys will not be intentionally included in application logs, error reports, metrics, or backups.
These are commitments for the messaging feature. GEMC2 will not represent the feature as available until the implementation supports these protections. Technical metadata needed to route messages, prevent abuse, and maintain service security may still be processed as described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Notifications and real-time features
GEMC2 may use a real-time connection to update feeds and notifications while you are connected. If you opt in to browser push notifications, your browser creates a push subscription and GEMC2 stores the endpoint and subscription keys needed to deliver notifications. Current social-activity notifications may display the actor's username or display name and the activity type (for example, a +1, reply, mention, follow, or repost). They do not intentionally include the full text of a post. You can disable push notifications in the app or browser settings.
11. Availability, security, and liability
GEMC2 is provided on an “as available” basis. We take reasonable steps to protect and operate the service, but no online service can guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or absolute security. Users are responsible for protecting their credentials and for considering the public nature of what they publish.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, GEMC2 is not liable for indirect or consequential losses or for copies of public content made by third parties outside GEMC2's control. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability, consumer protections, or other rights that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to GEMC2, security practices, or applicable law. The current version and effective date will be published on this page. Where required by law or where a change materially affects users, we will provide notice through an appropriate channel. We will not promise a notice period that conflicts with mandatory legal requirements.
13. Governing law
These Terms are intended to operate consistently with the laws of Mexico and any mandatory consumer or data-protection rights that apply to you. Applicable law may provide rights that cannot be waived by these Terms.
